Microsoft PowerApps is designed for anyone who wants to create applications without special programming skills. This is made possible by the modular concept and freely selectable templates. This allows the user to create, manage, and share business applications for iOS, Android, and Windows devices. Microsoft PowerApps is integrated into the Azure Stack and is distributed as a Platform as a Service (PaaS). There are connections to various Microsoft applications, such as Microsoft SQL Server, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Customer Engagement (CRM), as well as third-party applications such as Dropbox, Google Docs, SAP, and Oracle. The associated APIs, as well as the applications themselves, are hosted on Microsoft Azure.

The following is a small tutorial on how to create an application from a SharePoint Online List (OnPremise is not supported). The app will end up with three screens where the user can browse the records, display fields of a particular record, and create or edit the records.

1. The custom list is opened in SharePoint Online. Click on PowerApps in the command line to open the point

Create app.

2. The name for the application is entered in the displayed area.

A new tab in the web browser opens and shows the app that was generated automatically based on the SharePoint list. On the left you can see the different screens. On the right are the pre-made templates for the selected screen.

Creating an application from SharePoint Online is probably the simplest and fastest way to get it all. If a completely new application is to be created, this is done using a Common Data Service database. This includes the step of creating a database in the Admin Center. What, however, for people already familiar with the Admin Center, should not be a problem.

In order to open the created application on an iPhone, for example, it is necessary to download the Microsoft PowerApps app from the Apple Store. After successful authentication with your Office 365 account, all available applications, including all custom apps, are displayed.

PowerApps really seems to keep what it promises. Uncomplicated creation of simple applications without great programming skills. We are curious about how it will develop in the future and what features or interfaces are still to come.
