Microsoft Power Platform Features and Benefits

A study commissioned by Microsoft to explore the economic effect of PowerApps and Microsoft Flow has revealed some really impressive figures. By the way, just because the study was commissioned by Microsoft does not mean that the results are not objective. Forrester Research is a renowned market research institute, so the results can be considered credible. The "lab" was a 2,000-person company, where all employees had access to the Power Platform and its applications through a Microsoft 365 license.

The key findings were that the introduction of the tools would standardize and optimize processes. The transformation towards a more automated company was also driven forward. Furthermore, there is no doubt that the development with PowerApps and Flow saves costs. The entire organization was able to react faster and better to new business requirements. Read the complete Forrester study for more details (

IT costs

The average cost of building an application has fallen by 70%.

In the case of applications for which the two tools can be considered for development, the internal development effort or the costs for external services are much lower.

In-house development

Price-intensive external services were replaced by in-house development.

The employees gave examples of external applications that were replaced by self-developed applications with PowerApps and Flow. A total savings of $91,454 was determined for the two applications.

Process automation and efficiency

Process automation and efficiency have been increased.

The created applications and workflows digitized existing, manual and often paper-based processes. The efficiency gains can vary depending on the workplace, but especially travelers benefited from the improved processes. Overall, the efficiency for 1575 users improved by an average of 15% by the third year of the study.

Data-based and efficient decisions

Through better access to information, employees can make better and faster decisions.

Much of the development work completed with PowerApps and Flow enables faster capture of information from first level staff and delivery to decision makers. This in turn means that better decisions are made based on higher quality data sets.

Employee satisfaction

PowerApps and Flow make it possible to increase employee satisfaction.

Both IT and business users can create more efficient and effective applications that add value to the business. In many cases, these applications would never have been developed without the tools. This gives employees more control over their work and allows them to minimize manual tasks.

Mobile use

Mobile applications developed with PowerApps and Flow are more secure than applications developed entirely internally.

Because these applications and workflows are linked to Azure Active Directory and other Microsoft solutions, IT can control permissions at the data and application level. Especially since all PowerApps based on the Common Data Service for Apps are automatically GDPR compliant.

Reporting through KPIs

Improve the effectiveness of your corporate reporting. Understand which activities achieve the desired effects and which do not.

Integrate your Power App applications with Power BI, for example, so that you can report on your applications company-wide.
Define KPIs, which serve as thresholds for your applications.
